East Van, The Million Dollar Ghetto

I got for walks around  my hood every few days (too burn some of my calories cause I sit on my computer too much). Anyways some  bought 2 lots 2 houses away from me and has torn one house and down, and left one standing for now until he starts building. The only problem is that it’s turning into a local dump. My area (Renfrew Heights) is looking like the ghetto, but  with a million dollar price tag attached to it. Maybe I should rent out the place to some squatters, until they tear it down. Or.. Maybe I should call the city of Vancouver on the builder for being such a clown and letting the mess get worse and worse. ..

I snapped some photos just to show you how nice it looks…

Almost…. Getting Scammed On Craigslist

I have used Craigslist many times to rent my rental properties, get rid of furniture, even used to do affiliate marketing  through it (years ago). I had an website landing page that I needed translated and I wanted someone local to do it.  I contacted a few people, one guy said he could do it for 0.06 cents per word, good price.  I asked if he was from Vancouver and if we could meet to do the payment. I said this because I wanted to make sure he wasn’t a scammer. I already knew about online translation sites such as Google Translate. I also realize that it’s far from perfect to translate from English to other languages, so the best thing to do it hire someone to do it properly.

The guy calls himself “Chris” and he said he would start right away. He actually said he was from Vancouver, so I thought it would be fine.  The next day (today), I emailed him to see how the project was coming along, and he said it was all done. Two minutes later I get an email  from AlertPay.com (It’s an online  payment processor, like PayPal) stating that [email protected] wants to be paid $72.00 U.S. Payment for the “translation”

Why is it US funds?

I then email him back asking why is it in U.S. funds and he says  that he lives in Washington D.C. I told him to call me so I can talk to him, his number shows up as (301)437-9953. Maryland area code which is fine since Maryland is next to D.C. I ask him why he said he was from Vancouver in a previous  and he said he needs to check his email (why?).

I tell him I wanted to deal with someone locally so I could meet them in person to make sure they weren’t just using an online translation web site to make some quick cash and scam me at the same time. Online translation sites do a poor job of making the article or words sounds proper. He says that I can let one of my friends who understands French to proof read it. He said he could email 1/2 the article for me to look at and then I could send the payment for $72.00 U.S after I approved.  It all seemed like bull sh*t to me, such an easy scam really. “OK, send it and I look at it.”

Anyways he sends part of the article over and I went right to Google Translate and boom, it’s the same exact paragraghs word for word, just translated from English to French. Nice try scumbag.

You can give him a call if you want, (301)437-9953 ask for Chris the scammer. I think the number is a prepaid cell phone. Always be careful, someone is always ready to drain your wallet.

I found some one local who isn’t afraid to meet in person, lesson learned. Be careful on Craigslist.com deal locally!

The Tuesday Run Around

Today was lots of running around. First had to get all my papers for the Vegas condo signed, done. Then I bought a cheap new Brothers fax machine (cost $80), instead of faxing stuff at Staples for $1.50 a sheet, done. I hate wasting money on BS and getting stuff faxed at Staples is one of them.  Then I went to the bank to wire the funds for the condo, and it should be ours within the next day or so. I’m happy about that, I should be going down to Nevada sometime early next month.

Then, I had to meet my POCO tenant at Tim Hortons because his rent check bounced, done. Went home did some more work, and then went to my mother in laws for dinner and left early because we needed to meet up with my accountant to signed corporation papers, ugh,

I then realized I had a bunch of pics on my camera that I should upload to my blog, and here I am. Time to watch one hour of TV, then off to bed, zzzzzzzzz.

Happy Canadian Thanks Giving Day

Well Happy Canadian Thanks Giving Day to everyone out in Internet land. I know our neighbours to the south have their Thanks Giving Day in November.  Anyone living in Canada has lots of to be grateful for.

Sometimes I don’t realize how good we have it in Canada, but if you compare to almost 99% of the world  then you start to realize how lucky we really are. We have tons of open space, a stable economy (with little recession problems), stable political environment, tons of opportunities here if you want to make it big financially, great place to raise families and so much more. Yes I have bitched tons about the weather in Vancouver, when it’s raining but overall it’s hard to beat.

That is the reason real estate continues to rise here all the time (unlike almost everywhere else), everyone wants to live here.

  • Where you rather live, India or here?
  • Where you rather live, China or here?
  • Where you rather live, Philippines or here?
  • and so on…

It’s  all about the quality of life here in Canada,  something I have personally taken for granted for a long time. If you ever watch the movie Sicko, then you realize we have it better even than the USA. They need to pay for expensive heath care insurance in the good ole States, we get it free (through our taxes but still..)

So today think about how lucky you are to have what you have. I am grateful for everything in my life, and wouldn’t change a thing. And some people wanted to know how my 7k profit per day was going, let me just say it’s climbing up there now. Don’t ask for my traffic sources, took me a long time to find decent places with trial and error. DON’T ASK!!!!! I am not there yet but at this rate I should reach my goal. You’re not the only one in shock, so am I. Let’s just say that the law of attraction and writing down your goals works. Obviously you need to work at it however you gravitate towards what you focus (work) on.  It always amazes when I write down goals then they come true.

Just like when I said I wanted to buy 2-3 condos by the end of the year,  it happened. Write down your goal and work towards them. It’s a simple process that will change you life if you want it to happen and work towards it.

Oh and October 10th 1999 was the day I left my “stable carpenter job”, 10 years ago to join the dotcom revolution. Now I make more in 1 day than I did in 1 month working there.  It’s my 10 year anniversary, some people thought I couldn’t do it but I proved them all wrong. I knew very little about computers when I left my job, but I took a 6 month internet development course and went from there. I have never worked as hard as I have in the last 10 years but it was worth every swear word and every simple moment of pain and stress.

Don’t let anyone hold you back, usually the people who try to hold you back are the ones who are too scared to do anything themselves. Follow your inner self and you will be ok.

Believe in You.

Furniture Shopping At The Richmond Ikea

Me and wifey spent the day at Ikea in Richmond, why? Obviously I need to furnish the place in Las Vegas but they don’t have an Ikea in Las Vegas which sucks! They can ship the stuff from their Ikea warehouse in California to our place in Las Vegas, so we went and picked out all the furniture, beds, night tables, chairs, dinner table, sofas and a few other tid bits. We wrote it all down and we will go to the Ikea website and then call the order in to the Ikea call center, they can ship all the stuff direct to Las Vegas. This is the best idea we had to furnish the place for cheap.  I don’t want to spend $20,000 to furnish it…

So now I’m kinda beat from walking around Ikea for the last 2 hours, ugh. At least we picked out all the household stuff, minus  the tv, tv stand, vacuum cleaner and some other small stuff.  Pretty dumb they don’t have Ikea in Las Vegas since their population is about 2,000,000 just like Vancovuer, whatever!

sample display bedroom at Ikea (wer’e buying the same bed as well as night stands, messy display room though..)
