When The Power Fails All Boredom Breaks Loose

So yesterday was my basic day get up then bike ride to the coffee shop, come back, eat dinner blah, blah, blah. Last night I get home and notice the alarm was acting funny, the yellow “trouble” was on. The last time the  “trouble” light came on was when we got back from Mexico to notice our home had been broken into. Last night was a different reason………

I looked around and everything was secured (no forced entry), so that was cool. I asked the neighbour if she had power, nope. Apparently there was a big B-A-N-G around 3:35 PM and then the power faded into the sunset. Personally I think a transformer blew and that is the big bang that sounded like World War 3.

Anyways……

I was like “sh*t now what am I going to do?”. I figured I would be a good husband, since the power was out and clean up, I would vacuum the floors. Um, vacuums need electricity you cluck. OK I guess no vacuuming for me then.

Actually anything that I wanted to do I needed electricity:

  1. Pour myself a glass of cold filtered water, electricity is needed to power the fridge that has the water purifier built into it. Doh!
  2. Check my email, um yeah obviously electricity is needed once again.
  3. Weed eat the back yard since I can’t do the above, oops you need electrical power again bud!

Anywho the list went on of all the things I thought I couldn’t do. I figured I would call BC Hydro (on my cell phone, cause my land line is DEAD) and see what the hell was going on. I got an automated response on the phone with BC Hydro with a message stating they “are aware of the situation and power would be back at 7 PM”.

I get off the phone with BC Hydro and my wife calls asking if I want a precooked BBQ chicken from Superstore. Little did she know that we had no way to cook food and actually the food in the freezer was slowly defrosting. So yeah I want the precooked bird!!

Long story short, I kinda forgot how much we ALL rely on power. It’s pretty scary how life would be without it. Personally I think I have would started rioting on Rupert Street, here in East Vancouver and looting the 7-11 if the power wasn’t on by 11 PM . Oh and the power estimate was off a little, the power came back at 10:15 PM.

Let me tell you how boring it is to have candles lit up, no TV, and watch precious daylight disappear only to be surrounded by dead silence and blackness. Yuck! BC Hydro, you bastards owe me a Friday night!

** PS: We went to the mall to keep ourselves occupied until the power was supposed to come back on.

LuluLemon bag With Cool Quotes On It

If you’re from Vancouver and aren’t a senior citizen then you know how popular Lululemon is in this city. My wife has every color of pants as well as the top to go along with them. When you buy a Lululemon you get a cool reusable bag, that is perfect for grocery shopping etc. The bag itself has over 100 quotes and thought provoking phrase, check out the photo below and read a few of them. I actually haven’t read them all so having the photo on my blog will give me a better chance to sit here and read them.

My favorite quotes on the Lululemon bag?

  1. Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.
  2. Do one thing a day that scares you.
  3. Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to.

Commercial Drive In Vancouver At A Glance

Last night we dropped of my baby daughter at my parents place, then my son, wife and myself went over to Commercial Drive for some ice cream at Dolce Amore located 1 block north East 1st Avenue. The place makes real Italian ice cream right in the back, yum, yum. I brought the camera along and snapped some more pics of Commercial Drive. Usually at night we end up going to Tim Hortons because the price is right and they have nice tasting coffee. For those not from Vancouver, I recommend Commercial Drive as it has a real multicultural feel with tons of coffee shops, produce stores and so on like I mentioned last week in my “This Weekend In East Van” post.

On Commercial Drive I recommend Calabria Bar for great tasting real Italian cafe, no Starbucks bullshit. The Calabria Coffee Bar has been on Commercial for over 30 years, long before non fat Lattes became a second language for yuppies. Surprise caffe lattes and mochas weren’t invented from Starbucks in Seattle, they just knew how to market it on a HUGE scale. Enough about that, I do get carried away don’t I?

Also for cheap produce and a huge selection of Italian foods such as Mortadella and Romano cheese go to Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara market has a great selection of Italian foods, it’s run by a cool old Portuguese man who always looked pissed about something, ha ha.

And… here are the photos from Monday night:

Journey Through My BackYard On Monday Morning

I had to take out the garbage this morning because it’s Monday, that means garbage pickup in East Van. I brought the digital camera along for the journey through my backyard and snapped a few pictures of the plants living back there in BackYardville. I just love making my backyard looks nice, it’s a nice calming feeling for me to relax in my backyard with nice colorful flowers and nicely trimmed green shrubs and plants and really green grass . I never thought I would care much about that type of thing, but I guess things change as you mature. I have a real appreciation for keeping my yard and landscaped tidy and looking fresh. If you would ever see my grass you would think you were at a golf course (no joke). I have no weeds (pulled them out 5 months ago) and the grass is soo green and vibrant (yea I use fertilizer on it).  My yard looks prefessionally landscaped, haha. I am pretty anal about how my house looks, and my truck and almost everythng. It’s almost a sickness, lol. Well not that bad but….

Why Early Blogging?

I’m stuck at home because  my wife has a kink in her neck ( her neck is as stiff as a board, sucks) and we need to make an appointment to see Doctor Wong this morning. Unfortunately her doctor isn’t in yet, so we have to sit tight. I should have been at coffee shop right now but things change. And that is why I am posting at such an early hour  (9:30 am Monday morning).

A Laptop Thief Gets Nabbed!

I never thought this would happen. I posted about laptops being stolen from the coffeeshop that I am using wireless Internet from. Well, the theif was so brilliant that he came today (2 days later) and was ready to try his hand at stealing more laptops. This IDIOT must be really dumb because he was videotaped stealing a laptop 2 days ago. Habib the owner watched the videotape, and I guess he remembered the guy as he walked through the door today. Good lookout Habib, he called the police, they took about 5minutes to get here and the bald assh*le junkie was arrested right away. Apparently the junkie was scoping out laptops as Habib was on the phone with the cops. The dude looks like a 45 year old science teacher, slim and balding and nerdy looking.

He will be easy to convict as he was caught on tape which has now been handed to the RCMP in Burnaby, good work!!!
